Payne’s Hut is an Australian-styled experience located 45km north of Omeo and about 75km south of Mitta Mitta in a remote High Country valley in North East Victoria. This award winning property was founded by Tess and Graham Payne who welcome Guests to this unique mountain sanctuary with warm hospitality and superb food.
A variety of accommodation options are offered, featuring luxurious beds with woollen underlays, warm down quilts and crisp linen sheets. The buildings are styled with Australian High Country themes and furnishings and the overall experience Guests receive is one of true High Country hospitality.
Weddings at Payne’s Hut are intimate and memorable with numerous ceremony locations with a variety of backdrops for photography. Packages including finger food on arrival, sit down dinners, cooked breakfasts and special treats are available. 12 Guests can be accommodated on site and up to 25 in nearby accommodation.
Meals are a highlight of any stay at Payne’s Hut with breakfast included in the tariff, often featuring home made bread, by Graham, a qualified chef, and jams and preserved fruit from the garden. Dinner is available and needs to be ordered when booking your stay. Self-catering in the fully equipped outdoor kitchen is also an option with a small charge covering the use of the facilities and essential condiments and other incidentals.

This ‘off the grid’ property is a place to leave your cares behind. Relax and unwind or head out and explore nature with hiking boots on, a fishing rod in hand or even bring a kayak to ride the rapids on the Mitta Mitta River. The property is on the edge of the Alpine National Park at 850 metres altitude and the pristine alpine streams that flow through this valley originate from the Bogong High Plains at around 1700 metres altitude at the top of the valley west of Payne’s Hut.
