THE AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL

CANBERRA

The Australian War Memorial is a world-class museum, shrine and an extensive archive.

The Memorial showcases exhibitions and galleries, covering Australia’s involvement in many military conflicts and peacekeeping missions. Our galleries feature a unique collection of art, technology items, personal documents and photography. We offer daily tours led by our passionate volunteers.  You can also visit the Research Centre Reading Room which is a dedicated facility within the Memorial that provides research assistance and access to our archived collection material. Perfect for those wanting to research their family military history.

The Memorial farewells visitors with its moving Last Post Ceremony. This is held in Memorial’s Commemorative courtyard, each night and tells a story behind one of the names on the Roll of Honour which lists more than 102,000 Australians who died in the service of our country.

Poppy’s Café is open daily from 9am to 3pm (kitchen open from 11am to 2pm) & bookings can be made on the Memorial website.

Entry to the Memorial is free & bookings are required to be made online.  Visitors will require timed tickets to enter the Memorial galleries, and also to attend the daily Last Post Ceremony in the Commemorative Area.
