LAKE MOUNTAIN ALPINE RESORT
From June to September, Lake Mountain transforms into a winter wonderland with over 35kms of trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Funpark, for tobogganing and snow play, is enhanced by snowmaking facilities including a snowfactory installed in 2019, boosting the natural snow cover. Lake Mountain is an ideal first time snow experience.
The Snowsports School and Fischer Nordic Demo Centre, with world-class instructors and equipment, bring cross-country skiers back year after year. Kids aged 3 – 7 years can try out snowboarding at the Burton Riglet Park. 7 – 14 year olds can also try snowboarding in the 90 minute Burton Learn to Ride (LTR) program.
The Resort Rental Outlet offers clothing and snow boots for all ages and quality cross-country ski equipment and snow shoes. The Retail Shop has a range of clothing including gloves and beanies. Vehicles may be required to carry wheel chains during the snow season, depending on snow conditions and these will need to be fitted where directed.
The Bistro is open 7 days a week during Winter, from 8.30am – 4.30pm, serving delicious hot food and drinks.
During the warmer months, the Bistro is open from 9am – 4pm Fri – Mon, 7 days a week and a range of different sized mountain bikes are available to hire – all including a helmet. The trails are great for walking, with many scenic lookouts over the High Country, spectacular wildflowers and regenerating forest.
Guided wildflower walks are available during Nov, Dec and January, with details being found on Lake Mountain’s website and Facebook.
Lake Mountain is popular for both mountain biking and road cycling over the warmer months. With over 30kms of shared mountain bike trails and the new 28km single track masterpiece, ‘Cascades’, that runs from the resort all the way down to Marysville, there’s plenty of terrain to suit all ages and ability levels. A shuttle to take you from Marysville to the top at the resort operates most weekends generally from November to Easter and daily during the Summer school holidays. A trail map for ‘Cascades’ can be found here and for the Home Trails can be found here
The 21km road ascent from Marysville is a challenging and scenic way to cycle into the cooler air, going from around 450 metres to over 1300 metres altitude.
Nearby towns, off the mountain, offering great options for accommodation and many other services are Marysville, Buxton and Narbethong.
