BOGONG MOTH MOTEL

The Bogong Moth Motel is in Tawonga South in the heart of the High Country. We are at 172 Kiewa Valley Hwy, 1.5km from Mt Beauty, 30km from Falls Creek ski resort and 85km from Wodonga.

We are a small, comfortable motel with 8 rooms, but we cater for a range of clients. We have Superior rooms with a queen bed and a small private patio with a stunning view of Mt Bogong, Victoria’s highest peak, Standard rooms with a queen and a single bed, Four person rooms with a queen and a set of bunks and a Family room that has a queen and a single in one room and 2 singles with a separate toilet in an adjoining room with the possibility of an extra single being added to the adjoining room if required.

The Bogong Moth Motel offers the opportunity to lay-by your accommodation. You must contact the motel directly to book your stay and arrange to make regular payments until paid off. The full amount needs to be paid before your stay commences.

We have secure off-road parking, all rooms have RC air-conditioning and are equipped with microwave, kettle, toaster, water and wine glasses, TV/DVD and we offer a free DVD library from reception. Beds have doonas equivalent to 5 blankets for the winter and naturally all rooms have ensuite shower and toilet. We also offer lockable parking in our garage for bicycles or up to seven motorcycles. There is a free guest BBQ with plates and implements provided and some great shady areas to sit and enjoy your meal.

For such a small town we punch well above our weight when it come to fine dining; directly across the road from us is Flour Plus Water, a fantastic restaurant offering great food from take-away to eat-in a la carte. We are 500m from The Stockpot, another outstanding place to eat and relax that also offers take-away and we are 3km from the amazing Roi’s. The food in each of these establishments is outstanding as is their selection of local and other wines.

The Bogong Moth offers a continental breakfast but for something more substantial Treats is 500m down the road, Seasons is slightly further in Mt Beauty, the local bakery is around the corner from Seasons. There are 2 hotels in town, both with good kitchens and from Friday to Sunday our local boutique brewery, Sweetwater, is open from 1pm with free live music every Sunday.

The Bogong Moth is the ideal place to stay for your holiday in the High Country, particularly that skiing weekend when the budget doesn’t quite stretch to ski-in, ski-out accommodation at Falls Creek. But it’s not all about skiing, the area has so much more to offer. There is a great mountain bike track, a challenging 18-hole golf course, some outstanding trout fishing, horse riding and great swimming holes. For the more adventurous you can ride a rubber raft down the river or go for a ride in a glider. The climb up Mt Bogong is very popular as is the trek from Falls Creek to Mt Hotham.

The hills around here provide great endurance training for cyclists and there is a number of cycling events each year with the annual Three Peaks event held in March being the main one. The winding, hilly roads around here are perfect for motorcycles and we are ideally placed for the great ride over Falls Creek, past the Blue Duck for lunch and on to Phillip Island for the races.

The annual Kangaroo Hoppet ski race is held in August and if you are here for a skiing holiday Rocky Valley Ski Hire is 400m away and has all your requirements, skis, boards, boots, poles, clothes and they hire and show you how to fit chains for your car. They do a pretty good coffee too. This area really has it all and the Bogong Moth Motel is perfectly placed to make the most of it so if you are looking for a comfortable, affordable place to stay where you will be made to feel welcome, come and see us.
