AUSTRALIAN HIGH COUNTRY HONEY
SNOWY MOUNTAINS REGION
It’s always wonderful to hear about a farm that is having its landscape looked after in the most sustainable way possible, improving the health and biodiversity of the farm and also its ability to cope with natural adversity like drought, fire and flood.
High up on the Plains of the Snowy-Monaro, ranging from 750 to 1000 metres altitude, is a family producing Australian High Country Honey, growing juniper and grazing cattle on their farm that follows regenerative agricultural principles.
It’s on this land that their hives of busy bees make pure, raw honey from a variety of local flora including Snow Gums, Peppermint Gums, Manna Gums, Yellow Box, and Manuka Tea Tree. Depending on the time of year and the flora available to the bees, the resulting honey can vary from a delicate light colour from Peppermint and Snow Gums through to a richer, dark colour from species like Manuka and Ironbark.
This honey has won several awards over the years, including 1st prize in the National Honey Awards at the 2023 and 2024 Sydney Royal Easter Show for their Snowgum Honey.
Lucy and Bruce are also proud to be amongst the first commercial growers and suppliers of Juniper in Australia to help make artisan Australian gin 100% Australian.
Ongoing supply of Australian juniper to North of Eden distillery has allowed for the crafting of several exceptional gins that have medalled including gold and silver medals at the International Wine and Spirit Awards in London. North of Eden has now converted their entire range of gin to using Australian juniper and are featured as a project in the Bega Circular Economy Initiative.
